Burgundy has magnificent nature and nice art of living

Holidaying in Burgundy means variety!

You are going to discover Burgundy for first time, or to rediscover it, or to come back to it after a long period,...

In any case take your fill of magnificent nature, nice art of living, strong heritage and great culture. All are in full harmony.

Magnificent nature

Enjoy landscapes of exceptionnal charm. They are very varied with villages and vineyards in wine regions. But Burgundy also offers a marvellous canal system providing a network of navigable waterways which nowadays can be enjoyed for all forms of holiday activities. "Canal du centre" is only 10 kms away.

Morvan (French), an extensive natural park of half a million acres in the centre of the region, is stunningly beautiful... huge forests, rolling hills and lakes.

Throughout the region there are wonderful ways to enjoy the outdoors: the walking opportunities are impressive whether through forest or rural farmland. Enjoy to just drive along small back roads where the stress of daily life seems light years away.

Nice art of living

A holiday to France is punctuated with wine and food. Burgundy is paradise. Burgundy is the region that gave us the Kir’©, ‘Boeuf Bourguignon’ and‘Coq au Vin’. Charolais beef, Bresse chicken, escargots, mustard, gingerbread cake...and so many other items that make eating sheer delight.

In Burgundy, "Vignerons" really do think that the wine they produce rates with the finest in the world. You can sense their satisfaction with the wonderful product that come to these chalky or rocky hillsides. The whole process of making wine is a very
personal business. Sure, there are large producers but, in the main Burgundian winemakers own small "parcels" of land and so they know very vine, almost very stone personally.

In addition, Burgundy come alive with music, theatre, dance and song from June until October at over a hundred locations.

Strong heritage and great culture

The landscape is dotted with Romanesque churches, abbeys of the great monastic orders of Benedictine and Cistercian and stunning cathedrals in the cities. A mediaevel legacy is Dijon the capital. Dijon has many examples of this powerful period and a visit to the Dukes Palace gives a vivid indication of Burgundy’s influence.

To the south of the capital is Beaune, which is also a capital...of wine. But, more than this the city is the home of the famous "Hospices de Beaune" . With its brightly coloured tiled rooftop, it stands out as one of the perfect examples of the "Burgundy roofs" which, in fact, were originally influenced from Flanders which was part of the Burgundian "empire". The origin of the building goes back in the 15th century when Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins founded this place where the sick and needy could be housed and cared for.

Château de Commarin

The region is also dotted with impressive castles, many of which are open to visitors. Many are "chateaux forts" when defence was a priority. Others reflect the Renaissance period where style was more important. Other ones reflect more recent period.
